An experience on domestic violence and abuse will part of the session on Monday.
PHILIPSBURG--Victory Over Injustice Consciously Eliminating Silence (VOICES) Foundation will be hosting a Wo/Men Empowerment session through poetry, song and awareness.
This event will be done virtually on Monday, November 30, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
“Keeping the people of St. Maarten safe is our number one priority,” said Nkosazana Esther Illis, Founder-President of VOICES Foundation, on Thursday.
According to the release, domestic violence is something that persons do not speak enough of in our society. Too many persons remain silent. Domestic violence affects both women and men.
The VOICES Foundation said its reason for hosting this event on November 30, is to commemorate its VOICES anniversary and birthday of the late Micheline Illidge-Douglas, the sister of the VOICES Founder-President, whose life was brutally taken through domestic violence by her husband.

“Bringing awareness to our community is very essential especially during these challenging times of COVID-19,” said Illis.
During the event, Minister of Justice Anna Richardson will give a few remarks on domestic violence. Counsellor Amy Arrindell and behaviour specialist Ramonda Hanze will empower and enhance attendees’ experience with their presentation. There will also be an experience on domestic violence and abuse.
Persons can enjoy poetry and song with some of St. Maarten’s greatest artists: Lasana Sekou, Shantillia, Lysanne GoddessEye Charles, Essynce, Faizah Tabasamu, Betti V, Magueda Jackson, Anderson Perceval and Ayana Tyrell-Lake. “Arts are universal and touch the heart and life of humanity,” said the release.
Illis extended heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost their lives through domestic violence and sadly but not forgotten, those lives that were lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Much strength goes out to the family and friends. VOICES ‘use your voice and save a life’,” she concluded.
