The Atlantic high-pressure ridge is expected to strengthen over the next few days, which will lead to a change in the weather pattern across the local area through the weekend. Winds are expected to gradually increase from Wednesday afternoon, with the highest gusts expected Thursday night into Friday January 1st, 2021. Gust of 35-40 mph are likely during this period.

Seas will begin to deteriorate from Wednesday night peaking near 11 feet by Friday.

Rainfall associated with this event is not expected to cause significant flooding. However, showers are possible and may be accompanied by gusty winds.

Warnings/advisories will be issued for St. Maarten tomorrow December 30 as required.

The general public in particular small craft operators and seas users should be alert and take the necessary action.

An update will be issued on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at 12 noon.
