ANGUILLA--A vibrant cross-section of Anguilla’s retired persons turned out on Sunday, October 11, to commemorate the start of the annual monthly celebration activities for the elderly always held during the month of October.

The day began with a church service at the Life Impact Centre Evangelical Church where Anguilla Retired Persons Association (ARPA) President Mona Fleming addressed the group. She said, “We as citizens of this country and as a retired group must look out for each other. May we remain united as a group and never forsake the assembling of ourselves together.”

During this week complimentary cosmetic services are being given to residents of the Rosewood Centre, Tender Loving Care and the Miriam Gumbs’ Senior Citizens Homes. Also this week La Severine Fitness and Massage will render complimentary services to senior citizens at all four senior residential homes on the island. On Thursday, October 22, at 7:00pm, there will be a games evening for senior citizens at the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home.

Clive Frankie Smith who works with the aged at the Department of Social Development and who wrote the project proposal that led to the formation of ARPA encouraged the retired Anguillian community to join ARPA. He said the annual membership fee of only US $10 opens and expands the doors to robust community involvement.
