Instability and abundant moisture trailing Fiona will account for cloudiness, showers and possible thunderstorms across the local area. Some showers may be moderate to heavy. Therefore, people in areas prone to flooding and rock slides should remain vigilant.
A small craft advisory is in effect for St. Maarten as seas are expected to peak at 10 feet during the next 24 hours. Small craft operators and sea bathers are advised to exercise extreme caution.

Fiona becomes a hurricane. At 11:00 AM (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fiona was located about 230 miles southwest of St. Maarten.
Fiona is slowly moving away from St. Maarten toward the west northwest near 08 mph (13 km/h).
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the Atlantic and keep the public updated accordingly.
