SYNOPSIS:
Daytime heating and shallow patches of moisture transported by the easterly winds could trigger a few brief showers, particularly during the overnight to early morning hours.
Hazardous sea conditions can be expected as long-period northerly swells affect local waters for the next few days. As a result, a small craft and a high surf advisory are in effect for St. Maarten. Sea bathers and small craft operators are advised to exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to rough
WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 8 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE: Showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave located about midway between the west coast of Africa and the Caribbean have increased and become better organized since yesterday afternoon. Further development of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form over the next several days while it generally moves westward to west-northwestward over the central tropical Atlantic and approaches the Lesser Antilles later this week.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor this system and update the public accordingly.
