WILLEMSTAD--Recently, developer LXRY Resort BV officially received a building permit from Minister Charles Cooper of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning VVRP, signalling the go-ahead to construct a vacation villa complex and shopping centre at Brakkeput.
The property with a size of 24,000 square metres is situated on the eastern side of the island near various residential areas, namely Cas Grandi, Brakkeput, Jan Thiel, Montaña and Jan Sofat. In addition, many tourists who stay in the vicinity will also visit.
It regards 14 luxury high-quality villas, a retail area with a wide variety of shops, a supermarket, a gym, restaurants and entertainment. Fifty modular units are being developed that can be made larger or smaller for the tenant if desired.
The homes are to be completed at the end of 2023, and the shopping centre with supermarket in the last quarter of 2024. In addition to the stores, LXRY will also serve as meeting place for all target groups: “Every evening fun, music and once a week a large outdoor market. Periodic events will also take place in the shopping centre,” according to a release.
The shopping centre – designed by VIP architects – has two floors. The lower part is more focused on shopping, with more catering establishments on the first floor.
VIP’s Cas Aalbers has designed bridges where eateries will also be located at various spots. The grocery store is also easily accessible for visitors and developers also plan to integrate a “hip indoor food market” into the concept where one can buy fresh products or consume them directly.
Developers Arjen Weima and Patrick Heintjes indicate that all functions that can be expected from a contemporary shopping centre are achieved. It is very centrally located and will have plenty of parking. The inspiration for the design of the shopping centre came from Patrick Heintjes, with Rotterdam’s “Koopgoot” as basis.
The modern holiday villas are being developed right next to the shopping centre. “These very spacious four-bedroom villas with a swimming pool and a tropical garden offer guests all the luxury for which they could wish. Guests can use all the amenities of the shopping centre – in short, a concept where everything has been thought of to make everyone happy.”
