THE HAGUE--The four prime ministers of the Kingdom, Mark Rutte of the Netherlands, Evelyn Wever-Croes of Aruba, Gilmar Pisas of Curaçao and Silveria Jacobs of St. Maarten, will be attending the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York this week.
The Dutch Government last Friday announced the visit of the Kingdom delegation to the UNGA. The delegation will be led by Rutte, and will also include Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Liesje Schreinemacher.
The Dutch Caribbean countries will take part in several side events that are organised during the week of the UNGA on themes such as education, climate, female leadership and small island developing states (SIDS). The prime ministers of Aruba, Curaçao and St. Maarten will also meet with regional colleagues and with UN organisations.
Prime Minister Rutte will be in New York on Friday, September 23. On that day, he will address the UNGA. He will also take part in the High-Level Roundtable of the UN 2023 Water Conference, meet with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and have bilateral consultations with various leaders of government. In the evening, he will have dinner with representatives of the Dutch business sector in New York.
Minister Hoekstra will be in New York the entire week. Together with ministers of Germany, Denmark and Ukraine, he will seek attention for the steps that need to be taken in the area of accountability for Ukraine.
Minister Hoekstra will talk about the importance of freedom of the press during a meeting that the Netherlands is organising with Canada about the destabilising effect of disinformation. Together with Argentina, Hoekstra will seek attention for equal rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and other identity LGBTQI+ persons as chairpersons of the LGBTI Core Group.
