Dr. Holiday and Tony Pantophlet to run the day to day management of SMMC, Gynecologist gave notice for departure.
Cay Hill:--- The General Director of the St. Maarten Medical Center Kees Klarenbeek and chair of the board of directors left the island on Sunday to attend to personal matters. On Sunday management staff of SMMC accompanied Klarenbeek to the airport as they bid him farewell.
According to a memo that was sent to the staff of SMMC, it states that Klarenbeek had to leave due to personal circumstances and that he will be away for the coming weeks. The memo further states that Antonio Pantophlet, the care manager of SMMC will take over Klarenbeek’s role pending his absence while Dr. Felix Holiday can be contacted for medical matters. Several staff members of SMMC is now expressing concerns over the management of SMMC and how capable is Antonio Pantophlet to handle the day to day management of SMMC.
It should be noted that the Supervisory board nominated Dr. Feliz Holiday for the position of Medical Director. While the Supervisory board was supposed to publicize the vacant position, that was not done. It is not known when Dr. Holiday will take up his new position as medical director and what will become of the surgical department since there is only one surgeon that could work alone while Dr. Luke Mercelina has to work under supervision as he continues his re-entry program.
Another loophole SMMC will soon have to fill is the space of a gynecologist who already submits notice to SMMC management that she will be leaving by the end of 2017.
