PHILIPSBURG--Former Finance Minister Perry Geerlings has been nominated for appointment as the new member of the Committee for Financial Supervision for Curaçao and St Maarten (CFT), with the appointment set to take effect October 1.
The Kingdom Council of Ministers has approved the nomination of Geerlings, who will serve on the CFT on the recommendation of the country of St Maarten. His appointment is for a period of three years.
Geerlings currently serves as a member of St Maarten's Corporate Governance Council, an independent advisory council that oversees good governance of government-owned companies and foundations.
He previously served as Minister of Finance of St Maarten, a member of the Parliament of St Maarten and director of the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary of St Maarten. He has also held various positions in the financial sector.
Geerlings will succeed Julisa Frans as St Maarten's CFT member. Frans will receive an honourable discharge from the position effective October 1.
The CFT is an independent body that supervises the soundness of the public finances of Curaçao and St Maarten. It has a signaling and advisory role.
