GREAT BAY--St. Maarten lost a cultural icon on Thursday. The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) has extended its condolences to the family, loved ones and friends of Louis “Porkchop” Lambert Richardson following his passing on Thursday.
SCDF said Richardson was a familiar and valued part of St. Maarten’s cultural landscape and that his contributions to Carnival and the wider development of local culture will be remembered with appreciation.
Through his involvement, presence and support over the years, Richardson helped strengthen a Carnival product that continues to bring people together and showcase the spirit, creativity and identity of St. Maarten.
The Foundation noted that Carnival is built by generations of people who give their time, talent, energy and love to the culture, and said Richardson was among those who contributed to that foundation.
“Porkchop was part of the cultural fabric that helped shape and support Carnival in St. Maarten,” SCDF stated. “We are grateful for his contribution, his presence and the memories he leaves behind.”
SCDF said his passing is a loss not only to his family and friends, but also to the wider cultural community that knew and appreciated his involvement over the years.
“As we mourn his passing, we also take this moment to recognize his contribution and to express our gratitude for the role he played in supporting our culture and Carnival product,” the Foundation stated.
On behalf of its board and the wider Carnival community, SCDF extended strength and comfort to Richardson’s family during this difficult time.
“May Louis ‘Porkchop’ Lambert Richardson rest in peace.”
