MARIGOT--Another young life is lost and another family in bereavement. A young woman was killed in a scooter accident in Sandy Ground on Wednesday morning around 11:00, the Gendarmerie reported.
According to the preliminary information, the young woman (19) was overtaking traffic and crashed into a small truck approaching from the opposite direction. She was not wearing a helmet. She was immediately stabilised by emergency services but succumbed to serious injuries in hospital.
This is the second fatality involving a scooter rider within three days. On Sunday a 27-year-old man lost control of his machine in Baie Nettle and crashed into the rocks at the entrance to Baie Rouge.
The Gendarmerie indicated this was the second road fatality involving two-wheeled vehicles for the year in St. Martin. St. Barths had one such fatality.
