This police vehicle is one of the recent additions to the growing pile of vehicle wrecks on Pond Island. The police wagon is one of 20 vehicles donated by the Dutch National Police Force to aid the St. Maarten Police Force after the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.
The hurricanes severely damaged 80 per cent of the local police vehicle fleet. The previously used vehicles were shipped to St. Maarten on board the Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman at the beginning of October 2017. The 20 police vehicles comprised 14 cars, four vans, one mobile command centre and one truck/mobile command unit.
Several of the vehicles are said to be already damaged from intensive use.
