SYNOPSIS:
A reduction in atmospheric moisture results in relatively stable conditions.
Long period northeast to easterly swells and rough seas are predicted to occur for the next few days. Small craft operators and sea bathers are advised to exercise caution.
STATE OF THE SEA: Moderate to rough WAVES/SWELLS: 6 to 8 feet
SPECIAL FEATURE:
1. At 11:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm (TS) Philippe was located approximately 622 miles (1001 km) east-southeast of St. Maarten. The system is moving towards the west at 9 mph (15 km/h). Maximum sustained winds remain near 50 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts. Its closest point to St. Maarten is predicted to be approximately 37 miles (54 km) north on Saturday. Slow weakening is forecast this weekend.
2. A Tropical Wave (TW) located in the eastern Atlantic has an 90% (high) chance of formation over the next 48 hours. Environmental conditions are predicted to be favorable for ongoing development, and a tropical depression is expected to form within the next couple days.
The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor these systems and update the public accordingly.
