St. Maarten Police Force KPSM would like the community to remain cautious as the new school year begins.
PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten Police Force KPSM is reminding the community to prioritise safety as the 2026-2027 school year begins on Monday, August 17.
With schools reopening, motorists and residents are being advised to expect increased traffic, particularly in and around the Cul-de-Sac Basin, South Reward and St. Peters areas.
KPSM is urging motorists to exercise patience, caution and courtesy during the morning and afternoon rush hours. Parents are encouraged to leave home early, ensure that children arrive at school safely and on time and, where possible, consider carpooling to help reduce congestion. School bus drivers are also being asked to assist with traffic flow by using the main roads as much as possible and avoiding unnecessary use of inner roads in the affected areas.
According to KPSM, this can help prevent additional congestion and contribute to safer movement for students, pedestrians and other road users. Police officers will be present at certain locations to assist with traffic management and promote safety around schools.
KPSM is calling on the community to work together, remain patient and follow traffic regulations as the new school year begins. The police force wished students, parents, teachers, school staff and the wider school community a safe and successful 2026-2027 school year.
