PHILIPSBURG--Casinos in St Maarten generated 460,000 Caribbean guilders per month in each of the first six months of 2026, while lottery revenue ranged from Cg. 180,000 to Cg. 183,238 per month during the same period, according to information provided by the Minister of Finance to Parliament.

The figures were provided in response to questions about tax revenues generated from casinos, lottery booths and other gaming establishments. According to the information provided, casino revenue was Cg. 460,000 in January, February, March, April, May and June 2026. Lottery revenue was Cg. 180,000 per month in January, February and March. Revenue increased to Cg. 183,231 in April and Cg. 183,238 in May, before reaching Cg. 180,167 in June.

The Minister said casino and lottery operators are subject to license fees under the gaming ordinance.

Asked whether the approximately Cg. 8 million collected annually from the gaming sector adequately reflects the level of economic activity generated by the industry, the Minister said the funds currently collected reflect the existing legislative and fiscal framework.

“Whether this amount adequately reflects the overall fiscal contribution of the gaming sector requires further assessment from a fiscal perspective.” The Minister also said government recognises that the current regulatory framework requires modernisation.

“The ongoing gaming reform therefore includes a new licencing and supervisory framework, under which the applicable fees and supervisory levies are being assessed to ensure that the sector is effectively regulated, contributes appropriately to the cost of its regulation, and that the broader fiscal interests of the Country are safeguarded.”

The Minister said the current level of collections should not by itself be used as the benchmark for the contribution expected from the gaming sector under the future regulatory framework.
