Signing the agreement
ORANJESTAD--Curaçao and Aruba will collaborate more closely in the field of government and education digitalisation. The cooperation has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Oranjestad by Curaçao Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport OWCS Sithree van Heydoorn and Aruba Minister of Education and Sport Gerlien Croes.
With this agreement, both countries aim to accelerate the digital transformation of government and education within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The cooperation focusses on, among other things, educational digitalisation, educational information systems, data-driven policy development and improving digital services.
An important part of the accord is the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two Dutch Caribbean countries. They will collaborate on, among other things, educational dashboards, diploma registers, student tracking systems and the linking of various government registers.
Curaçao is currently working on the development of the Central National Education Application CLOA. Aruba is focusing on the further development of a modern digital government and improved data exchange between government services.
By sharing expertise and experience, both parties aim to work more efficiently and strengthen their digital developments. The agreement aligns with the digitalisation objectives within the so-called “country packages” of reforms and agreements made during the Justice Four-Country Consultation JVO regarding education and innovation.
Van Heydoorn emphasised the importance of reliable information for good education and effective governance. “Good education and good governance begin with reliable information. By sharing knowledge and experience, we strengthen both our education and our public services,” he stated.
Croes also sees benefits in collaboration. “By working together, we can learn faster, work more efficiently, and achieve better results for our citizens,” she declared.
With the signing of the MoU, Aruba and Curaçao confirm their joint ambition to invest in a modern, innovative and future-proof government in which digital solutions play an important role.
