Over the past six years, @ColorMeSXM has worked with local and regional artists to create 24 public artworks throughout the capital. The project aims to beautify Philipsburg, promote artists and encourage residents and visitors to explore the town through a self-guided walking tour.

Operating largely through volunteers and grant funding, the project relies on support from artists, grant agencies, property owners, sponsors and other community stakeholders. Be The Change Foundation has recently reviewed the condition of the artworks and is approaching stakeholders for assistance with their continued maintenance.

With support from Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, damaged or missing information plaques are being replaced. Artist Zillah Duzon Hazel has also been able to refresh her mural as part of the maintenance efforts. Alongside preserving existing artworks, @ColorMeSXM hopes to add more public art to Philipsburg as grant funding allows.

The updated website also includes an artist directory designed to help businesses and individuals contact artists directly for commissions and collaborations. According to the foundation, several artists have reported receiving more mural commissions after participating in the project.

The Philipsburg Art Walk map has been updated to include recently added artwork. The free, self-guided tour offers residents and visitors an opportunity to explore the town and its public art at their own pace.

The map was designed by graphic designer Kevin Baly of Baly Designs and can be

downloaded from the project’s website, www.colormesxm.com. The artist directory is available at www.colormesxm.com/directory. Updates on the project can also be found on Instagram at @ColorMeSXM
