PHILIPSBURG--A man dressed in dark clothing and armed with a handgun robbed Caribbean Gems on Front Street of several gold chains just after noon on Friday.

The man entered the store, threatened the workers with his weapon, snatched several gold chains from a chain rack in the establishment and fled on foot towards Back Street, where he is believed to have jumped on a scooter and fled the area, police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release on Friday.

Several patrols searched the area to locate the suspect, to no avail. The Special Robbery Unit is investigating the matter.
