SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - With the escalating situation in the Middle East contributing to rising fuel prices and uncertainty in global energy markets, NV GEBE is encouraging customers to use electricity and water wisely.

“Although these developments are beyond our control, they serve as an important reminder that responsible use and conservation will benefit everyone.

“While we cannot control events taking place around the world, we can control how we prepare and respond. NV GEBE continues to closely monitor these developments while remaining focused on providing safe and reliable electricity and water services.

“We also continue to look for ways to improve our operations and use our resources wisely so we can continue serving our customers and community as efficiently as possible.

“As part of this effort, NV GEBE encourages all customers to adopt practical conservation measures that can help reduce both energy and water consumption. Small changes made consistently can result in meaningful savings while also supporting the responsible use of our island's resources,” NV GEBE said in a press statement on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Customers are encouraged to:

  • Turn off lights, televisions, and other electrical appliances when they are not in use.
  • Set air conditioning units to an energy-efficient temperature and keep doors and windows closed while in operation.
  • Replace traditional light bulbs with LED lighting where possible.
  • Unplug electronic devices and chargers when they are not being used.
  • Repair leaking faucets, toilets, and pipes promptly.
  • Limit unnecessary water use and practice water-saving habits throughout the day.

Temporary Manager, Ms. Iris Arrindell, stated that, “Conservation is a shared responsibility and by making small adjustments in our daily routines, we can collectively reduce unnecessary consumption while helping to manage costs and preserve valuable resources for our community."

This release marks the launch of NV GEBE's "Together We Conserve" awareness campaign, through which customers will receive weekly conservation tips, educational videos, and practical advice on our official social media platforms.
