ANGUILLA--A release from Governor Dileeni Daniel Selvaratnam and Premier Ellis Lorenzo Webster announced that the government of Anguilla has donated 2,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to the government of the Bahamas. This was agreed to and arranged with the UK government at the request of the Bahamas.
A flight left on Wednesday, July 21, for Antigua, where the vaccine doses, stored in a special temperature-controlled container, were to be transferred onto a direct flight to the Bahamas. The donation means that the excess vaccine doses that were held in Anguilla will not go to waste before they expire on July 31. Webster said the government is pleased and proud that they have been able to give this support to the Bahamas.
At the same time, the premier reassured that there are still sufficient vaccine doses in Anguilla for first doses as well as for those scheduled to receive their second dose; also that the UK government has committed to providing second-dose vaccines for anyone in Anguilla who takes their first dose before July 31.
The governor and premier are urging people to go to the Ronald Webster Park drive-through to get vaccinated as there are only seven days left for vaccination before July 31. “No appointments are necessary – just turn up with a form of photo ID. Please do not regret waiting: go and get vaccinated,” the release urges.
