The St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) congratulated police veteran Carl John on his appointment as chief commissioner, calling the appointment “well deserved”. The SCDF credited John’s efforts as key factors in St. Maarten Carnival known as one of the safest in the Caribbean.

“The Carnival Foundation and the police force have a close professional working relationship. Both entities understand that safety is a priority in Carnival and both make no compromises when it comes to such,” the SCDF said. “Chief John over the past few years has led a team that has come up with innovative and new methods in safeguarding Carnival, its revelers and our visitors. Carnival has enjoyed tremendous growth due to the fact that the festival is safe and this can directly be credited to John and his team.”
