USM Events Manager, Ms. Valda Woodley Hazel states “USM organizes its lectures and debates in line with growing trends on the island. With the previous parliamentary elections, there was an obvious growth in a number of females contesting on the various political parties. Based on that development, USM collaborated with “Woman2Woman Phenomenal Woman” radio program and held a political debate featuring an all-female panel. That debate was a major success and provided the females a platform to prove themselves to the many attendees”.
Ms. Woodley Hazel went on to say, “this year we are seeing a growth in a number of young people and newcomers contesting in the elections slated for September 26th, 2016 and in keeping up with this trend, we decided to hold a debate featuring one “Millennial candidate” of each party. In 2014, we gave the ladies the opportunity to shine, this year it’s the Generation X & Y turn”. USM urges the general public to come out and experience an arousing discussion.
