PHILIPSBURG:--- Many colleges and universities require an application essay or motivation letter as part of their application these days but for some students writing effective essays or motivation letters can be a struggle.
The Student Support Services Division (SSSD), of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports Affairs, realizes that the struggle is real and as a consequence is holding a free two-part workshop entitled “Crafting a College Entrance Essay and Motivation Letter” on September 13 and September 15, 2016.
This workshop will be held at the University of St. Martin from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on both days respectively. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to students who attend both days of the workshop.
“Writing for some people comes naturally, however others struggle to express themselves. During this workshop, students will critically analyze excerpts of essays so they can apply the lessons to their own writings. An added element of this workshop is that the aim is for students to end up with a working draft of an application essay or motivation letter,” say SSSD officials.
For students applying to most colleges and universities in the United States, a college essay is a must and while motivation letters apply more to schools in Europe. Emphasis in this workshop will be put on having a proper thesis while focusing on the IBC method. The importance of the essay and letter in respect to their entire application will also be highlighted.
Persons interested attending the workshop are urged to call SSSD to register for such.Workshop participants are also urged to be on time and to bring their own writing utensils. If parents or students have any questions on these workshops, they can contact the Student Support Services Division at telephone 543-1235 for more information.
