PHILIPSBURG:---- SINT MAARTEN – October 24th, 2016 – The Rotary Club of St Maarten’s third annual Texas Hold Em Poker and Bingo night once again was a fantastic event. 167 participants played Bingo and Poker. The fundraiser was hosted by Hollywood Casino and L’Isola Restaurant and drew 167 supportive participants played Bingo and Poker into the wee hours of the night. When all was said and done, over $12,500 was raised for Rotary’s youth related projects.
Both the Texas Hold’em poker and bingo tables were filled to capacity with enthusiastic participants who enjoyed a lovely dinner buffet provided courtesy of L’Isola restaurant. Adding to the fun was a “wheel of chance” where attendees spun to win great prizes. A raffle was also held and the grand prize winner was Sheridan Judd who won two round trip tickets courtesy of Winair.
The Texas Hold’em poker 1st place winner from a field of 81 players was Hilbert Haar who walked away with $1500. 2nd place won a return ticket on Air France or KLM. Top 10 finishers in Poker won prizes ranging from hotel stays to free pizza for a year. Also awarded were restaurant vouchers, sailing excursions, gift baskets bottles of wine and spirits, jewelry, and electronics. Other major prizes included, Oyster Bay Resort, Holland House HoteI, Summit Resort, and Sonesta Great Bay.
John Caputo, Rotary lead organizer of the event stated “This night is always so much fun. People are always in search of a different and unique fundraiser; a FUNraiser as I like to call it. We have all become so tired of the Gala dinners, however if we don’t raise funds, we simply cannot carry out many of the projects Rotarians work tirelessly on. That is why we came up with this new event a few years back and I have heard nothing but positive praise for the evening and that it was indeed fun as intended and participants can’t wait until next year.”
Henna Budhrani, President of the Rotary Club Sint Maarten, added "I simply wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone made this event possible; from sponsors of prizes, Rotarians, the dealers and waitresses, and those who bought tickets to support the event. A special thank you goes to the Management and Staff of Hollywood Casino and L’Isola Restaurant for hosting us and the event now having completed its 3rd year I must also say thank you to the entire Rotary team who helped organize a spectacular and FUN evening. Everyone's efforts and the funds raised allow us to continue to educate our youth, feed the hungry and Serve Humanity. The proceeds raised from this event will be used to benefit youth programs in St Maarten including after school programs, scholarships, and our “No Child Goes To Bed Hungry Tonight” initiatives.
