St. Johns:---- In commemoration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, December 3rd, Miss Mature Carnival Queen 2016 Norrisa Anatol paid a visit to the White & Yellow Cross Foundation Basilia Center. The clients at the center are cared for by specialized employees whose mission is to improve the total (physical, cognitive and social) development and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities, with special attention to effective health care, rehabilitation, early identification and detection measures, and dissemination of information about disabilities.
Anatol received a warm welcome at the door by two of the center’s clients and Licensed Nurse Assistant; Ms. Ann Mary Kennedy. In addition to the visit, Anatol presented a container filled with Art supplies in which the center urgently needs. Some of the items include various character hats and costumes, paint, brushes, markers, pencils, drawing charts, beaded chains, masks and birthday celebration supplies. “It was an honor being able to assist in the development of citizens currently faced with a disability. I decided to donate these items because I am aware of the effective advantages in which the arts can have on a disabled person. Art provides a great means of self-expression and creativity and allows people to escape from the routine of their daily lives in hopes of coping with life's challenges,” Anatol stated. Kennedy and the clients were thrilled to receive Anatol’s contribution and expressed how useful the items will be especially in the coming weeks when the clients will be engaged in several activities.
Anatol also pledged to return to the center on December 15th for their Christmas celebration and assist in the preparation and happenings of this event. “I would like to thank Tony’s Air-condition for contributing towards this cause. I encourage everyone to educate themselves about the different disabilities and frequently visit the center, give a helping hand and contribute towards the development of the clients.” Anatol concluded.
