PHILIPSBURG:--- On Saturday, April 21st Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Jorien Wuite was a guest of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club where the flag of Sint Maarten was raised for the first time since Hurricane Irma as they officially re-opened their youth sailing lessons. The afternoon consisted of a sailing event and a raffle, the proceeds of which will benefit the club’s Youth Sailing Program and rebuilding efforts.

At the event the Sint Maarten Yacht Club & Sailing School reported that they sustained severe damages caused by the hurricane. Their docks, deck and fleet were severely damaged and fifty percent of their fleet was destroyed or needed replacement. The past six months was spent building back the deck for lessons to resume, though lessons continued from the Kim Sha beach. Lessons will now be able to resume from the newly rebuilt dock.
