PHILIPSBURG:--- Seven promising young students were collectively awarded almost USD $9,000.00 thanks to generous donors’ contributions to the Erika Cannegieter Dream Big Scholarship Fund for 2018.

Be The Change Foundation’s scholarship program allows applicants to submit applications for small grants to go towards their tuition, books, and materials for their academic studies, mostly tertiary. Applicants must present their transcripts, a strong professional or teacher recommendation, and demonstrate how they give back to the St. Maarten community.

Calls for applications open in May of every year urging aspiring students to apply for help with their tuition, books, school materials or whatever they may need assistance with. The chosen recipients are then announced on July 27th, the birthday of the late Ms. Cannegieter.

This year’s honorable recipients are: Tyriss Moore for University of St. Martin, Tjashana Honore for Leeds Beckett University, Muraiye Pierre for Tallahassee Community College, Jeannine Andrew for Northern Caribbean University, Mirian Pierre for Mount Saint Vincent University, Tamieka Richardson for The Hague University and Suini Pantophlet for the enrollment fee of the university/college of her choice.

Since its establishment in 2015, in honor of the foundation’s late founder Erika Cannegieter, Be The Change has dispersed close to $20,000.00 in grants and scholarships to St. Maarten youth. The Foundation would like to thank all of its donors, both local and foreign, over the years for making the dreams of young St. Maarten scholars a reality.
