SINT MAARTEN (GREAT BAY) - On July 25th, 2024, the Honorable Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor, Veronica Jansen-Webster, conducted an official visit to Seven Seas Water Group’s Point Blanche Water Plant, highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring a stable water supply in light of the ongoing construction boom in the Cole Bay, Simpson Bay and Cupecoy areas.
During her visit, Minister Webster received a presentation from Seven Seas, toured the facility, met with plant management and staff, and reviewed the latest operational updates and infrastructure improvements. The Point Blanche, Cay Bay and Cupecoy water plants, owned and operated by Seven Seas, play a crucial role in providing potable water to the island’s residents and businesses, making it a key component of the region’s public utility infrastructure. Since 2007, Seven Seas has been the sole provider of reliable water for the island through its Water-as-a-Service solutions.
In her remarks, Minister Webster emphasized the importance of maintaining a reliable water supply system as new developments continue to rise. “With the rapid growth and development in Cole Bay, Simpson Bay and Cupecoy, it is important that we proactively address the challenges of water demand. Our priority is to ensure that residents and businesses have uninterrupted access to clean and safe water,” she stated.
The construction boom in the western part of the island has led to an increased demand for water resources, making it essential to upgrade and expand existing water infrastructure. Minister Webster highlighted several strategic initiatives aimed at bolstering the water supply network, including:
- Infrastructure Upgrades: Investing in modernizing the water treatment and distribution systems to enhance capacity and efficiency.
- Sustainability Practices: Implementing sustainable water management practices to ensure long-term availability of resources.
- Community Engagement: Working closely with local communities, developers, and stakeholders to promote water conservation and efficient usage practices.
Minister Webster also praised the efforts of Seven Seas, the Water Plant’s management and staff for their dedication and hard work in maintaining high standards of operation. “The commitment of the Seven Seas team at their water plants is commendable. Their expertise and diligence are critical to our mission of providing reliable water services to all,” she added.
The government in cooperation with Seven Seas and GEBE remain steadfast in its mission to support the island’s growth while safeguarding essential services. Through ongoing investments and strategic planning, the administration aims to mitigate potential water shortages and support sustainable development in the burgeoning areas of Cole Bay, Simpson Bay and Cupecoy.
