Her Excellency Minister Plenipotentiary of Sint Maarten Drs. Gracita Arrindell, has joined Kingdom partners and the broader international community for the annual observance of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2000.
This international campaign calls on all to confront violence in all its forms and to reaffirm our shared commitment to a society where every individual is safe, valued, and protected.
This year’s global theme is “Unite to end digital violence against all women and girls.” Online and digital spaces should empower women and girls. Yet, the digital world has become a platform for harassment, abuse and control. These 16 days of activism seeks to unite the global community to rally for a world where technology is a force for equality, not harm.
The symbol of this global movement is the color orange: a bright, hopeful hue representing a future free from violence.
“In the Netherlands, landmarks across the country are illuminated in orange, sending a powerful message: violence has no place in our homes, our communities, or our Kingdom. The color reminds us that awareness must be matched with action, compassion, and solidarity.
“Across the Kingdom, including on Sint Maarten, domestic violence remains a deeply human issue that affects individuals regardless of age, gender, culture, or background. By standing together during these 16 days, and throughout the year, we strengthen our actions reinforcing this shared responsibility.
“On behalf of the Cabinet of the Minister Plenipotentiary, I extend my gratitude to all organizations, advocates, law enforcement partners, shelters, and community leaders who work tirelessly to ensure safety and dignity for survivors.
“Let us continue to speak up, support those in need, and foster both physical and digital environments where respect and equality are the norm.
