The Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment, and Infrastructure (VROMI), Patrice Gumbs, confirmed that the Great Bay basin is ready for enhanced flood management with the installation of the stormwater pumps. During this final check, the minister conducted a test to witness the speed at which the water can be removed from the pond. Minister Gumbs congratulated the ministry for the timely planning and installation of this project and thanked the contractor, Windward Roads, for the demonstration.
“With proper planning, funding and implementation, mitigation measures like these can reduce costs and save lives” Minister Gumbs stated.
Though tropical storm Dolly has weakened into a depression, the ministry of VROMI encourages the public to remain vigilant, especially in flood prone areas.
