Works on the comprehensive rebuilding and beautification of the Simpson Bay dock are entering a new phase. Over the past month, the lights, broken fencing, car wrecks, and bin have been removed. As of Wednesday, October 7th, the Simpsonbay dock will no longer be accessible, while the repairs are taking place. The project is expected to take approximately two-three months.

To facilitate the repairs, the Ministry of Justice announces that Immigration services normally, facilitated at the Simpson Bay dock, have been temporarily relocated to the Ferry Dock at Princess Juliana International Airport for the duration of the works.

The project is being carried out through a partnership between the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) and The Gioia Group. It will deliver the much-needed refurbishment of a facility that serves as a vital gateway for the island’s maritime and yachting industry. The restoration includes:

  • Complete reconstruction of the dock to meet modern maritime standards
  • Full rebuilding of the parking area to improve accessibility and capacity
  • Construction of a dedicated garbage room for proper waste management
  • Installation of trees and comprehensive landscaping to beautify the area
  • Repairs to the adjacent police station, sewage treatment system, and support for enhancing the general environment at the police and immigration station

Once completed, the restored facilities will provide enhanced services for the maritime community while creating a safer, more welcoming environment for justice workers and the public. Proper parking and enforcement will also be put in place, addressing long-standing access concerns raised by residents of Simpsonbay Village.

The temporary relocation will allow Immigration personnel to maintain continuity of these essential services while the refurbishment is carried out. Operating hours at the temporary location are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The Ministry of Justice is also exploring the possibility of establishing an additional temporary service location to further accommodate the maritime community during the refurbishment period. Discussions in this regard are ongoing, and further information will be communicated once arrangements have been finalized.

The Ministry of TEATT asks yacht agents, captains, marinas, vessel operators and other members of the maritime community to take note of the temporary arrangements and thanks them for their cooperation and understanding during this period.
