Since the implementation last February of a a system allowing tax payments to be spread over 24 months, 237 taxpayers from Sint Maarten have already submitted an application.

Le Ministry of Finance indicates that this mechanism aims to offer more flexibility to people with outstanding tax obligations.

The measure follows the requests from taxpayers who felt that the previous nine-month period was too short to settle their tax debts under favorable conditions. The new system, which is part of the progressive tax reform and renewal of the system, thus allows payments to be spread over a longer period, with monthly installments that are easier to manage.

GumbsThe tax authorities encourage taxpayers not to wait until the end of the year to take action: “We heard from taxpayers who told us that nine months simply wasn't enough. The ministry points out that this temporary measure, reserved for individuals and solely for unpaid income taxes, aims to to encourage the voluntary settlement of tax obligations while allowing taxpayers to gradually regularize their situation.
