Beware of traffic jams
The start of the 2026-2027 school year took place yesterday, Monday, August 17, in Sint Maarten.
On this occasion, the Dutch police (KPSM) are urging motorists and the general public to exercise extra caution, as traffic is expected to increase significantly during peak hours. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and to be patient during rush hour.
Parents are also encouraged to leave earlier and, where possible, to carpool. School buses are asked to use main roads as much as possible and avoid secondary roads to minimize traffic congestion. Police officers will be present at certain locations to facilitate traffic flow and enhance safety around schools.
For this new school year, Melissa Gumbs, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports of Sint Maarten, calls for a collective mobilization around youth and encourages students to actively build their future.
