A man identified by the initials S.J.F. was arrested on Thursday, August 21, in Philipsburg, in connection with two investigations involving a robbery and a fatal shooting that occurred in 2025.
The arrest was carried out by members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM). A firearm was found in the suspect’s possession at the time of his arrest. It was seized and will undergo forensic analysis as part of the investigation.
The first case concerns the robbery of Royal Caribbean Jewelers, which occurred on September 5, 2025. The second involves a fatal shooting in the Fort Willem area on November 13, 2025, in which a young man lost his life.
Following his arrest, S.J.F. was taken to the police station and brought before the acting prosecutor. He remains in custody for the time being while the investigations continue.

Armored Vehicle Accident: Traffic Disrupted in Philipsburg
A Brink’s armored cash-in-transit truck overturned on Friday, August 21, shortly after 11 a.m. on Link One, behind the Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) in Philipsburg.
Police officers and traffic service personnel dispatched to the scene determined that no one had been injured. The contents being transported by the vehicle were also intact.
However, the accident caused significant traffic disruptions in the area while the roadway was being cleared.
