A major operation was launched on Tuesday, September 29th between Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy as part of an investigation into a drug traffickingTriggered at 6 a.m. by the detachment of theAnti-Narcotics Office (OFAST) of Saint-MartinThe operation was conducted under the authority of the Basse-Terre prosecutor's office.

The military notably benefited from reinforcements from the intervention platoon of the mobile gendarmerie squadron of Mont-de-Marsan, as well as the support of Coast Guards of the Customs Service of Saint-Martin. The Collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy also provided logistical support for the operation. In total, Five people have been implicated. in this case. In Saint-Barthélemy, four young people aged 15 to 21 year-olds were arrested during the operations. Following their detention, the two main suspects received a summons to appear before the detached chamber of the Basse-Terre judicial court in Saint-MartinThe investigation is continuing in order to determine precisely the role of each person in this alleged trafficking between the two islands.

Explosion at a shipyard in Sint Maarten

An explosion occurred on Wednesday, September 30, around 16:20, in a shipyard located on Wellsburg Street, in Cole Bay.

According to the initial information released by the Sint Maarten PoliceWorkers were working on a boat, near the fuel tank, when an explosion occurred. Two workers sustained minor injuries. They received medical attention and their lives are not believed to be in danger. Firefighters quickly responded to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other boats or neighboring buildings. The exact circumstances of the explosion are still under investigation.
