In our previous edition, we looked back at the meeting organised on Friday 14 August at the CCISM between the president of the Collectivity, Louis Mussington and students from Saint-Martin.

After discussing mobility assistance and return conditions, the second part of the “Meet and Greet” focused on professional opportunities, entrepreneurship and the future needs of the territory.

One key point also emerged from the discussions: the Collectivity will not be able to recruit all returning young people. “We cannot hire all these young people who want to come back and practice their profession in the territory,” acknowledged Louis Mussington, emphasizing the significant impact of recruitment on the Collectivity's budget. He therefore encouraged students to also consider opportunities in the private sector.

According to the president, discussions are underway with investors in the hotel sector, some of whom have announced significant investment projects. Future water and electricity production infrastructure is also expected to generate a need for specialized technicians.

The president finally encouraged young people to consider starting their own businesses as a career path. “Let’s not underestimate the entrepreneurial spirit,” he declared, recalling that in the past, Saint-Martin residents held more positions of responsibility in the administration and businesses of Marigot. “Saint-Martin needs you,” he concluded, inviting this new generation to contribute to the territory’s development through entrepreneurship.

Finally, Louis Mussington confirmed his candidacy for a second term in the territorial elections of March 2027: “I have decided that I want to implement in this territory what is best to prepare your future”.

A nursing training program promised for 2027-2028

The president also reaffirmed his commitment to establishing a nursing program in Saint-Martin starting in the 2027-2028 academic year. A previous project had failed to materialize, but Louis Mussington assures that “everything will be done” to allow young people to train locally. The private Wataki clinic has reportedly expressed its readiness to recruit recent graduates. This initiative aims to meet the territory's needs while also facilitating the return of students. _VX
