The talented Akeelah Hunkins is writing a new chapter in her sporting career.
Originally from Sandy Ground and registered with Juventus St-Martin, the young footballer will now shine in the Toulouse region, where she will continue her schooling while looking for the club that will allow her to continue her progression towards the top level.
Midfielder Akeelah Hunkins has experienced a rapid rise since he began playing football approximately three and a half years ago. His performances have allowed him to gradually integrate into the talent identification and training programs of the French Football Federation (FFF).
The top level is the goal.
In February 2026, she was selected for an Inter-League U15 Women's training camp at the Clairefontaine National Football Centre. She was one of seven players from France's overseas territories chosen for this week-long immersion, which included training sessions, physical tests, and matches. In July 2025, Akeelah received the Pelicans Awards' Encouragement Prize. Three months later, she participated in the U15-U16 Women's Inter-League tournament at the CREPS Antilles-Guyane in Guadeloupe, alongside young talents from several overseas territories. And in December 2025, she joined the French Football Federation's (FFF) National Overseas Training Camp.
After these experiences at the highest level of her age group, the young Saint-Martin native is now taking a new step in mainland France. Her move is financially supported by the Saint-Martin Football League and LADOM. The goal is to combine her studies and athletic training in an environment more conducive to her development. Akeelah Hunkins has a clear ambition: to improve by playing alongside the best players and, ultimately, to try to turn professional. As the Saint-Martin Football League so aptly put it: “Her future is still to be written, but one thing is certain: she will take with her the colors, energy, and values of our Friendly Island.” We wish you every success, Akeelah! _DR
