Originally scheduled for June 13th during Spotlight, the opening of the Marigot Showcase was postponed due to a lack of furniture in the premises. Despite open houses organized for professionals on July 17th and 24th, nothing had really changed in the shared commercial space managed by the CCISM and the Collectivity. The Chamber now claims to be aiming for an opening in September, as the start of the high tourist season approaches.
“We had to revise our business model,” explains Luciana Raspail, CEO of the CCISM. The initial model stipulated that businesses would occupy their space and maintain a regular presence in the shop. However, the CCISM realized that many entrepreneurs run their businesses alongside other jobs and therefore cannot be present at all times.
Several formats were therefore considered, including the possibility of operating on a consignment basis or a more occasional presence. These changes required a review of the space's layout and furnishings. The CCISM (Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Trades) clarifies that there are no obstacles to furniture orders, but that the equipment needs to be adapted to the new operating model. The final adjustments are expected to be completed during August.
Around ten companies for the opening
Around twenty companies initially expressed interest. Today, about ten are definitely considering participating in the launch. Others may join the initiative once the store is open, particularly for pop-up events.
Among the committed entrepreneurs, Judicaël Bryan, founder of “Sparkles Cosmetics,” sees the showcase as an opportunity to “test” her products with a physical clientele. The delayed opening hasn't particularly affected her, especially since she has little stock and runs another business on the side.
For the CCISM (Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Trades), the choice of September is also strategic. It should allow the first tenants to get settled in before the peak season and benefit from higher foot traffic in the city center. “The fact that it's launching right at the start of the season is an additional boost,” says Luciana Raspail. _DR
