On Thursday, September 3rd, two retirees, a man and his wife, were on trial for fighting with their tenant on their property. For three years, a legal battle has pitted Mr. F., owner of a building and several apartments in Agrément, against Mr. K., the tenant and former caretaker. In June 2025, they came to blows, and the two retirees were prosecuted for aggravated assault.
While various legal proceedings were already underway regarding Mr. K.'s occupation of Mr. F.'s apartment, the situation took a violent turn on June 11, 2025. Mr. F.'s wife told her husband that their neighbor and tenant, Mr. K., had thrown a stone at her hand and that he had also allegedly uttered a racist insult. Mr. K. denied these allegations, but the defense argued that they were corroborated by neighbor testimonies.
The landlord waited for Mr. K. to return from his walk to demand an explanation. Security camera footage then shows Mr. K. spitting on the ground before Mr. F. violently shoves him. The tenant then grabs the nearly 80-year-old landlord by the legs and pulls him to the ground. His wife then arrives and grabs Mr. K. to pull him away.
Mr. K. was given five days of sick leave. Mr. F.'s wife suffered a broken finger, possibly consistent with being hit by a stone, but Mr. K. was not prosecuted for this. The court ultimately found Mr. F. guilty of assault and sentenced him to a €1.200 fine and €1.600 in damages for physical and emotional distress. His wife was acquitted, the court considering that she had intervened to separate the two men. _DR
