On November 13, 2025, a fight broke out in a bakery in Hope Estate between two women: the ex-partner and the wife of a man. On Thursday, September 3, the court sentenced the man to eight months in prison for, among other things, dragging his ex-partner by her hair in the bakery parking lot. All three were prosecuted for acts of violence.
J., a bakery employee, was behind the till when K. entered to "settle scores" with her. She accused her ex-partner's wife of spreading gossip. According to CCTV footage, the altercation, initially verbal, escalated when K. hit J.'s phone, which was recording the scene. J. slapped her back, before K. jumped over the counter to strike her.
Separated by customers, the two women stopped fighting, and K. left the store. A., her husband, then arrived and observed the injuries on J., his wife. He admitted in court that he had subsequently "lost his temper" with his ex-partner, but was unable to explain the violence that followed in the parking lot. K.'s medical certificate noted, among other things, hair pulled out and scratches consistent with being dragged by her hair across the concrete. Both women sustained injuries that each resulted in seven days of total incapacity for work.
The prosecution had notably requested 10 months in prison against A., already convicted in 2023 for violence against a partner or ex-partner, as well as a €1000 fine and 12 months suspended prison sentence against K., already convicted for acts of violence.
All three were found guilty of violence. K. was fined €1000, J. received a suspended fine of €500, and A. was sentenced to 8 months in prison, along with mandatory participation in a domestic violence awareness course. _DR
