Du 14 21 in September, the SAFE Saint-Martin association organises a new trip dedicated to discovering European and French democratic institutions. Ten adults from Saint-Martin and Sint-Maarten will participate in this immersion, with stops in Strasbourg and Paris.
À StrasbourgThe group will be welcomed at European Parliament, at the invitation of Marit Maij, Dutch Member of the European ParliamentParticipants will be able to discover the role of elected officials, European decision-making mechanisms and the venues where democracy is exercised at the Union levelIn Paris, the program notably includes a visit to the Senate and The national assembly, in order to better understand the role of the two chambers and their place in French public life.
This trip is part of the program ofawakening to citizenship powered by SAFE. The association had already organized, from 5 to 11 Aprila stay in Paris and Brussels for six Saint-Martin teenagerswith the aim of introducing them to European and French institutions. This time intended for adults, the new program follows the same approach: bringing citizens closer to institutions and giving them the tools to better understand democracy“Citizenship is not simply a matter of principles. It is lived, understood, and built through experience,” emphasizes SAFE. The association also aims to highlight the unique situation of Saint-Martin, a territory shared between two institutional realities and several European spaces. Beyond the visits, this experience should encourage participants to better understand their rights and responsibilities and to take a greater part in community life.
