GREAT BAY--The University of St. Martin (USM) will bring an often misunderstood and insufficiently discussed stage of women's health into the public conversation when it hosts a lecture titled "(Peri)Menopause… Nobody Told Me This!" on Thursday, October 15, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Room 202 at the USM campus.

Organized in observance of World Menopause Day, the lecture aims to create an informative and welcoming environment where women, their families and other interested members of the community can learn more about the physical, emotional and lifestyle changes associated with perimenopause and menopause.

The discussion will move beyond commonly recognized symptoms such as hot flashes to examine hormonal changes, mental health, emotional well-being, intimacy, fitness and the adjustments women may experience during this phase of life.

The panel will also address Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), lifestyle considerations and natural and herbal approaches to managing menopausal symptoms, giving participants an opportunity to hear different perspectives and become better informed about available options.

Perimenopause refers to the transitional period leading up to menopause, during which hormone levels fluctuate and women may experience changes in their menstrual cycles, sleep, mood and overall well-being. Menopause marks the point when a woman has gone 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period, generally signaling the end of her reproductive years.

Although these changes are a natural part of aging, the experiences can vary considerably from one woman to another. The lecture seeks to encourage greater understanding of these differences and provide space for questions that women may not always feel comfortable raising in everyday conversations.

The evening's panel will feature Dr. Laurien Reinders, General Practitioner; Kenan L'Homme, Certified Naturopathic Practitioner and Menopause Coach; and Amy Arrindell, Educator, Counselor, Author and Founder and CEO of Amy Arrindell Knowledge Toolbox.

The discussion will be moderated by Khalilah Peters.

An interactive question-and-answer session will give attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the panelists. Participants who have sensitive or personal questions will also be able to submit them anonymously in advance, allowing important concerns to be addressed without requiring individuals to share private experiences publicly.

USM is encouraging women experiencing perimenopause or menopause, those supporting partners or family members through these changes, and anyone seeking to better understand this stage of women's health to attend.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, October 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Room 202 at the University of St. Martin campus.
