GREAT BAY--The Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunset has opened public voting for its “Inspired by My Teacher” Video Competition, inviting the community to watch the entries and support students who have shared personal stories about teachers who inspired, encouraged or positively influenced their lives.
The submission period has now closed, with 29 students representing eight schools taking part in the initiative. The competition was open to students ages 4 to 18 and encouraged them to create short videos expressing appreciation for a teacher who made an impact on them.
Participating schools are Learning Unlimited Preparatory School, Methodist Agogic Centre JAG Campus, Sister Regina School, Prins Willem Alexander School, St. Maarten Academy, Seventh Day Adventist School, St. Dominic High School and Sr. Borgia School.
With the videos now online, Rotary Sunset is encouraging parents, teachers, families, friends and members of the wider community to watch the entries and vote for their favorites by liking the videos on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
Each like on each platform counts as one vote toward the participant’s total. This means supporters can increase their support by liking their favorite entry across all three platforms.
Voting closes on September 30, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
The competition also includes prizes for both students and the teachers they highlighted. The first-place student will receive a tablet, while the teacher featured in the winning entry will receive a hotel weekend stay. The second-place student will receive JBL headphones, while the teacher will receive a spa treatment.
Rotary Sunset said the competition is ultimately about more than prizes. The initiative was created to give young people an opportunity to recognize teachers through their own voices and to highlight the lasting influence educators can have on students.
The club is encouraging the public to take part by watching the stories, choosing a favorite and supporting the student and teacher featured in that entry.
