GREAT BAY-- The criminal investigation into the alleged disappearance of nearly NAf 2 million from the Charlotte Brookson Academy of the Performing Arts (CBA) has entered its final investigative stage, with the Prosecutor’s Office confirming that a decision on prosecution will be taken once the remaining actions are completed.
The Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to The People’s Tribune that the investigation remains active and that the final investigative actions are now being undertaken. The Police Force of St. Maarten (KPSM) is also in contact with the school regarding additional information needed for the investigation, while CBA’s attorney is being kept informed of developments.
Importantly, the Prosecutor’s Office said the fact that the suspect is residing in the Netherlands is not hampering the investigation, addressing one of the questions that has surrounded the case since it became public.
“A decision on prosecution will be taken once these actions are completed,” the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed.
The case involves allegations against CBA’s former treasurer, G. Rondei, concerning nearly NAf 2 million in school funds. Previous reporting by The People’s Tribune established that discrepancies were brought to the attention of the CBA board by then-director Tatiana Arrindell in July 2023. The school subsequently pursued legal action and the matter eventually became the subject of a criminal investigation.
When The People’s Tribune followed up on the case in September 2025, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the investigation was still ongoing and that authorities were aware of Rondei’s whereabouts in the Netherlands. At the time, communication was also taking place between his attorney and the Prosecutor’s Office.
CBA’s management had also maintained that the school wanted the case pursued to its conclusion. Director Silveria Jacobs told The People’s Tribune last year that the school regarded the matter seriously because of the impact the alleged loss of funds had on the institution and, ultimately, its students. The government accounting bureau SOAB was also conducting its own inquiry at the time.
