GREAT BAY--Fashion became a platform for heritage, identity and cultural storytelling as Colors of the Caribbean took centre stage at Seaview Hotel, bringing together design, music, poetry and performance in a regional cultural showcase.

Led by Project Lead and Manager Francheska Nancy Batista, the initiative presented a collection inspired by the beauty, diversity and stories of the Caribbean, while creating space for cultural education and exchange.

Through design and creative interpretation, the project highlighted the mix of cultures that shape Caribbean identity. The collection drew inspiration from the region's flora, fauna, landscapes, national symbols and cultural expressions, including the yellow sage, hibiscus, flamboyant tree, brown pelican, conch and seashells, and sea turtles.

These familiar elements of island life were transformed into wearable stories, encouraging audiences to better understand and appreciate the cultural meaning connected to the Caribbean's natural environment and heritage.

"This collection is a reminder of the beauty and heritage of our island, to carry it, protect it and be proud of it," Batista said.

At the heart of Colors of the Caribbean was an effort to connect fashion with cultural education. Clothing was used as a visual storytelling tool to encourage greater awareness of Caribbean heritage, while promoting creativity, dialogue and learning across generations.

The cultural experience extended beyond the runway through a series of performances. Benjamin Bell delivered a special rendition of the St. Maarten Song, adding a musical expression of national pride to the showcase.

Ja'mayah Flanders contributed poetry and storytelling, using spoken word to explore heritage, memory and identity, while Adrian Charles brought the sound of the steelpan to the presentation through a special rendition.

The combination of fashion, music, poetry and storytelling transformed the showcase into an experience designed to allow audiences to see, hear and connect with Caribbean identity.

Organizers also highlighted the contribution of the models, creative team, media and technical teams, whose work helped bring the project to life.

Appreciation was extended to members of the public who attended and supported the initiative, as well as sponsors, partners and funding sources, including Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, Seaview Hotel, Eudoxie Sewing Factory and the Colors of the Caribbean Design Team.

Colors of the Caribbean was presented as more than a fashion showcase. The project celebrated identity, Caribbean stories and the responsibility of future generations to recognize, protect and carry forward the culture they inherit.

Through fashion and performance, the initiative highlighted the Caribbean as a region shaped by different histories, people, symbols, landscapes, sounds and expressions, each contributing to a shared cultural story.
