GREAT BAY--The Be The Change Foundation has launched an updated @ColorMeSXM website and a revised Philipsburg Art Walk map while continuing efforts to maintain and preserve the public murals that have become part of the capital's cultural landscape.

Over the past six years, the @ColorMeSXM initiative has collaborated with local and regional artists to introduce 24 public artworks throughout Philipsburg, transforming walls and public spaces into displays of creativity, culture and artistic expression.

The project was established to beautify the capital, promote artistic talent, share information and encourage residents and visitors to explore Philipsburg through a self-guided walking tour.

As the artworks age, the foundation is placing renewed emphasis on maintenance and preservation to ensure the murals remain attractive and accessible to the public.

Operating largely through volunteer contributions and project-based grants, @ColorMeSXM depends on the support of artists, funding agencies, property owners, sponsors and community stakeholders.

The foundation recently assessed the condition of the existing artworks and is approaching stakeholders for assistance with their continued upkeep.

With support from Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied, damaged or missing informational plaques are being replaced, while artist Zillah Duzon Hazel has been able to refresh her mural.

The foundation also hopes to expand the collection of public artwork throughout Philipsburg as additional grant funding becomes available.

Beyond beautifying the capital, @ColorMeSXM has also created opportunities for participating artists to expand their professional reach.

According to the foundation, several artists have reported receiving additional mural commissions after participating in the initiative, demonstrating how public art can generate economic opportunities for creative professionals.

To further support this development, the updated website now features an artist directory that allows businesses, organizations and individuals to find contact information for participating artists and connect with them directly for commissions and collaborations.

The directory is intended to strengthen connections between artists and potential clients while promoting the continued growth of St. Maarten's creative sector.

Another major addition is the updated Philipsburg Art Walk map, which now includes recently completed artworks.

Designed by graphic designer Kevin Baly of Baly Designs, the map allows residents and visitors to explore the murals independently while learning more about the artists and their work.

The free, self-guided walking tour provides an accessible cultural activity for people of all ages, encouraging visitors to discover different areas of Philipsburg at their own pace.

The revised map is available for download from the project's website, allowing participants to plan their route and enjoy the artwork whenever convenient.

Through the combination of mural preservation, artist promotion and cultural tourism, @ColorMeSXM continues to demonstrate how community-driven public art initiatives can contribute to the character of Philipsburg while creating opportunities for local talent.

The foundation encourages continued community and stakeholder support to help maintain the existing artworks and make future additions possible.
