FREEGAN Foundation receives support through musical theatre workshops being held throughout the Netherlands.
PHILIPSBURG--Nearly 60 people have registered for a series of musical theatre workshops in the Netherlands this month, with proceeds going towards the work of the FREEGAN Foundation in St. Maarten. The six workshops are being offered by musical theatre performers, teachers and coaches who have donated their time and expertise to the fundraiser. As a result, proceeds from the workshops will directly benefit FREEGAN and its support for families on the island.
The three-hour workshops, taking place in Den Bosch, Uithoorn, Houten and Lijnden, cover several aspects of musical theatre, including burlesque, song interpretation, backing vocals, vocal coaching and performance coaching. The series begins on September 4 with a sold-out burlesque workshop in Den Bosch led by Elles de Graaf. On September 5, Myra and FREEGAN co-founder and managing director DJ Jansen de Jong will host “A Musical in Three Hours” in Uithoorn.
A song interpretation workshop led by Vincent de Lusenet will follow on September 6, while a performance coaching workshop with Ivo and Patricia is scheduled for September 13. Both workshops are already sold out. The final two workshops will take place on September 20. Jansen de Jong will lead the “Singing from the Heart” vocal coaching workshop in Uithoorn, while Harold and Louisa will lead a backing vocals workshop in Lijnden.
With nearly 60 registrations and three of the six workshops already fully booked, organisers say the fundraiser has received a strong response. “I am incredibly touched by the generosity of all these wonderful teachers and by the enthusiasm of everyone who registered,” said Jansen de Jong. “The teachers are not only sharing their professional knowledge and experience, but are also giving their time completely voluntarily.”
She added that every participant is contributing directly to FREEGAN’s work with families on St. Maarten. FREEGAN Foundation operates a client-choice food market on St. Maarten, while also providing coaching, education and other forms of support. The organisation aims to help families address immediate needs while also supporting greater confidence, independence and long-term resilience.
The fundraiser is intended to connect the musical theatre community in the Netherlands with FREEGAN’s work on St. Maarten, using the workshops to raise both funds and awareness for the foundation’s programmes.
