PHILIPSBURG--Volunteer registration for SXM DOET 2026 is now officially open, with the organising team calling on the community to take part in one of the island’s largest service initiatives.

The annual event is scheduled for May 15 and 16, under the theme “From Jump Up to Step Up for a Brighter St. Maarten.” Organisers say the initiative continues to highlight the impact of collective community action, with more than 80 projects already registered.

The SXM DOET team aims to mobilise between 1,200 and 1,500 volunteers over the two-day period and is urging residents to sign up early to help meet that target. Volunteers will be able to participate in a wide range of activities, including painting, minor repairs, community outreach, environmental cleanups and social projects.

“Non-governmental organisations and volunteers remain the backbone of SXM DOET,” the project management team stated. “Organisations have already prepared their projects; the next step is for volunteers to come forward and help bring them to life. Every contribution, whether a few hours or a full day, makes a meaningful difference.”

Organisers emphasised that the initiative not only supports community development but also fosters unity, providing an opportunity for residents to connect while contributing to the island.

As an added incentive, early “DOETie” items – sourced in part from local businesses – will once again be distributed. These will be allocated to the first 10 organisations that successfully complete their registration and, in turn, provided to the first 10 volunteers within those projects.

The organising team is encouraging individuals, groups, and companies not to delay registration, noting that projects are expected to fill up quickly based on interest and availability.

Persons interested in volunteering can register via the official SXM DOET website. Additional information and updates are available through the organisation’s social media platforms or via e-mail.

Organisers are calling on the community to “step up” and help make the 2026 edition a strong reflection of unity and collective effort across St. Maarten.
