ANGUILLA--With the theme “Anguilla for Summer” the Opening Night this year is on Wednesday July 29 at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre. The first section of the Miss Anguilla Pageant already took place on Sunday July 26 and has set the celebrations on a high note. The Summer Festival is a celebration of Anguillian culture, heritage and community and brings together music, culture, costumes, community and boat racing.

The Junior Calypso Monarch and the Soca Monarch show are on July 30 followed on Friday 31 with the Wet Fete, and on August 1 with the Band Clash and Band-O-Rama, and the Prince and Princess show on August 2.

J’Ouvert is one of the biggest events and is on August Monday 3rd. The parade starts in The Valley at 5 am with thousands of revellers following the large trucks that house the bands and singers. The slow ‘jump up’ procession heads to Sandy Ground where they arrive at about 10 am ready for the Caribbean Beach Party. A large stage is being set up at the northern end of the beach ready for the many top performers. International and regional acts include Nadia Batson, T-Vice, GBM Nutron, WCK, Freetown and Pantha Vibes. Local talent includes Grand Masters Band, Synergy 264 and Vere Musiq. The DJs during the day and evening will be DJ Avalanche, DJ Stylez, DJ Jamm, DJ Sugar and DJ Tights.

The Beach Party includes boat races and the Sir Emile Gumbs boat race is one of the attractions. B Class and A Class boats race during the afternoon while the music and food and drink booths remain open until late in the night.

Four young ladies are competing for the Miss Talented Teen Pageant on Tuesday August 4 and the following evening will be the Miss Anguilla Pageant with five contestants. The Grand Parade of Troupes in The Valley is scheduled for Friday August 7, with the Poker Run during the day and Leeward Islands Monarch contest on the evening of August 8.

The final day of the Summer Festival is Sunday August 9 with the Champion of Champions Boat races for Class A and Class B boats at Sandy Ground. Hundreds are usually at Sandy Ground to celebrate with music and food until the finale fireworks display that closes the Summer Festival.
