Rotary is an international volunteer organization with 1.2 million members, 35,000 clubs in 532 districts, 34 zones and 17 directors. The Head Quarters is in Illinois and Rotary International is headed by a President. On a yearly basis, each District hosts an annual conference to review progress of the current year and plan for the upcoming year. At the Rotary District 7020 Conference held May 2-7 in Nassau, Bahamas, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise was awarded for the outstanding community work that was executed in the Rotary year 2015-2016.
The club was awarded first place for the Club of the Month Program from the entire Rotary 7020 District, which comprises of 83 clubs varying from large (100+ members) to small (25 and less members) in 11 countries including Anguilla, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Barths, Saint Martin, Sint Maarten, Turks and Caicos, and U.S Virgin Islands. The club was named the Club of the Month Superstar and received the Diamond Award and trophy for its exemplary work.
The Club of the Month program requires clubs to monthly report from August 2015 to March 2016 about the wonderful projects executed monthly. The projects were then judged based on eight criteria such as: The impact the activities have had on the community, the effectiveness in enhancing and raising awareness about Rotary in the community, and the relevance of the actions to the monthly theme, to list a few.
In addition, the Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise received the District Governor’s Gold Award for Excellence and a Public Image Certificate for developing an outstanding public image campaign for the benefit of all members of District 7020 and the club.
President Marcellia Henry mentioned, “She would like to congratulate the members of the club for the exemplary work done during the Rotary year 2015-2016. She stated that the members personified the Rotary International’s theme for the year, which is to be a Gift to the World, and also embodied the District Governor Felix Stubbs’ theme, which is moving from Success to Significance. The club, although small in numbers, continues to make a tremendous impact in the St. Maarten community, the 7020 District and Rotary International, and epitomizes the Rotary’s motto: ‘Service Above Self.’.
